As a pan-African reinsurer, we firmly believe that the financial sector has a key role to play in accelerating the continent's transition towards a more responsible, resilient, and inclusive economy.
At the 5th edition of the Regional Roundtables on Sustainable Finance, organized by the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) on May 6 and 7, 2025, in Marrakech — of which we are a sponsor — our Director of International Development & Partnerships, Amine RYANE, participated in the panel entitled "Embedding Sustainability into African Insurance Markets".
He shared his reflections on how African insurance markets can align with global sustainability objectives while addressing local challenges and development priorities.
Mr. Amine notably highlighted:
- A progressive but resolute energy transition,
- The emergence of ESG regulatory frameworks,
- The need for cross-border cooperation to strengthen regional resilience.
He also proposed three essential mindset shifts for African insurers:
- From selling products to supporting lives, positioning insurance as a resilience lever;
- From ESG as policy to ESG as culture, embedding sustainability into everyday decisions;
- From working in silos to a collective approach, co-creating impactful solutions with partners.
At Atlantic Re, we are proud to contribute to this collective drive towards a more sustainable future for Africa.
